Settling in

We are settling into our Shanghai life. We spent most of Sunday with Oliver. We had a good look round the French Concession area where our apartment is.  It is ironic that it is one of the few areas with older buildings and more traditional types of shop fronts, but has many non-Chinese living in it and quite Western style food on sale and is enormously expensive.

In the evening we were hosted by Sasa's uncle in a restaurant along with all available family members including toddlers and three of Oliver's friends. About 20 all together (both tables in the photo). Sasa walked a long way with us to the restaurant and seemed very well on it.

Our host Alex is very friendly and welcoming. He was away when we arrived and now working but we will see him in the evenings. There is a nice big living room in the apartment and we have quite a big bedroom.  Very basic kitchen but we still hope to cook a few meals otherwise it could get expensive.

It is really quite warm still. Up to 19 degrees though people here are coming out of their hot summer so they think it is quite cool.

The picture shows Sasa's brother and his child on the nearest table with her aunt (wife of our host) standing, plus cousin and host's grandchild. Oliver and his friends on other table with their backs to us.
